Photograph of a male Downy Woodpecker. Downy woodpeckers are gleaning birds. They scale trees and shrubs, constantly tapping and digging beneath bark crevices for beetles, and ants, plus insect cocoons and egg masses. They have sticky, barbed tongues, the better to extract the hidden, buggy treats. The males tend to methodically search a tree's upper branches, while the females stick to the trunk and the lower, large limbs. To tell a male from a female, the female will be missing the red patch at the back of the head.

I am from a small New England town in Massachusetts, born and raised and go by the name Rebecca "Becky" Grzenda .... "Becky" is a nickname my Mom always used to address me. Photography has been a passion of mine for over 30 years. My late mother was the one that started me out in my venture of Photography when she bought me my first camera; in which, my love of photography began. I then started and am still active in a local photography club. I have competed in competitions within the club as well as outside of the club. Some of my other ventures included Wickford Art Association, competitions with the Massachusetts Audubon Society, South Shore Art Association, Rhode Island Watercolor Society to name a few.
